Final Fantasy XIV – Celebrate the Year of the Rat With Heavensturn

Heavensturn is a Final Fantasy XIV celebration that takes place as a new year begins. It’s a players’ favorite because it extends the festive atmosphere for two more weeks after Starlight ends. The Eorzean year is similar to ours. It has 12 months and just like Earth inhabitants, Eorzeans like to make a big deal out of it as well. Heavensturn takes inspiration from the Chinese New Year. Each year, the event has a different theme depending on which animal is celebrated. 2020 is the Year of the Rat so Heavensturn is all about mice.

The event story starts with the Mochi to Be Desired quest. Head to the Upper Decks in Limsa Lominsa and look for Nezumi Bugyo. You can’t miss him. He is wearing a red kimono but it’s the mouse-ish hat that will draw your attention. Keep in mind that you have to be at least level 15 to start the quest. The quest objectives are not too difficult. You will have to talk to a few NPCs, complete a FATE, and then return to the starting NPC. Even if the quest is not challenging, you will still get rewards for your work.

Mo Mochi!Mo Mochi! Mo Mochi! is an achievement obtained when you finish the quest. It is worth 10 achievement points. You get to choose from two head items. The Crimson Nezumi Kabuto or the Cobalt Nezumi Kabuto will be proof that you’ve aided Nezumi Bugyo.

In addition to the quest, players can also complete new FATEs during the event. Fireworks are not missing from the celebration. Players will be able to obtain items that allow them to display the kagami mochi decoration. Speaking of decorations, the Heavensturn Bounty is a new furnishing item available during the event. Just like everything else, this item is also mouse-themed.

The second day of the new year came with a letter from the Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Yoshi-P. He outlined the content release plans for 2020. The team is working on Patch 5.2 Echoes of a Fallen Star that is planned for release in February. Patch 5.2 is the first half of the chapter that concludes the Shadowbringers story. The second half will be introduced in Patch 5.3. 2020 marks the game’s 10th anniversary.
